Great turn out today, I think about 14 people showed up. Once again Matt "Wow'd" us with his knowledge of the area, history of the aircraft and it's crew. Thanks Matt!

Matt, I think I will be attending, just need to square away some things on my end. I'll be in touch for directions. Doug

Hi Doug,
Thanks for the welcome!
The B17 is tricky to find and due to the deep woods, It can be an intimidating search if your by yourself! (as I was both times I've been there!). Last time I almost walked into a black bear!
It's been a few years now and I really want to go back again before the snows fall. I live about 30 minutes southwest of Lake Tahoe so it's only about an hour & half trip for me.....not sure where you'd be coming from, but we could meet at Hwy 50 & Ice House Road West of Placerville. We can actually drive to about 1 mile from the site! (4x4 only!). Anyway, I was just laid off from work so I have more time......Let me know what may work for you.
Regards,
Craig

Hi Doug,
I'm a lifelong aviation nut....I learned to fly when I was a teenager though sadly I was never able to keep up with it. I moved to Nevada in '03 and took a couple years off from work an did a bit of exploring in the mountains & high desert. The I saw Pat Macha's "Fallen Wings" and was hooked! I try to find as much time as I can to visit crash sites though I wish I could spend more! The engine my photo is from the L19 site near White Mountain (Bishop)
I hiked to this site last October. Will go back to the Tell's Peak B17 in the next few weeks before the snow hits.
I hope to hear about more sites!

Doug, I think I might have gotten bitten by something last weekend. It's causing me to spend too much time looking at wreckchasers.

Thanks Doug. Glad to be here. I got hooked on this after going out looking for the T'ells Peak B-17.

Thanks Folks. Aircrafts have interested me for ages. Our last full on search involvement was for Claire and her dad Roy Grossman in NV. Seems we passed within 4 miles of them south of Jarbidge, NV one night; dark was then against us, as was the lack of roads than I couldnt get the Rover into with ticking off the BLM. We searched many miles of N/W NV on their hunch, then headed for Jarbridge/Elko area with a group of my guys from my offroadexperience school/tour company. Now trying to help a lady from UT; http://www.websitetoolbox.com/tool/post/pacaeropress/vpost?id=2973931&trail=30
We do carry a big list of downed aircraft in NV with us when working or playing there... made a big attempt at one south of Lovelock in May via dirtbikes, got within a mile via GPS, but couldnt get up the rock face; try again later from another angle. MG

Thank you for accepting me as a member. As I mentioned before, I will be going out this Sunday to look for an aircraft. I will be taking my camera and if we are successful, I will email you come pictures. I don't know the plane's I.D. yet and if I can get the
numbers, I will also send you the data. If, we find the site, I will be placing a geocache at or near the plane, but will not list the coordinates until I have communicated with you. Thanks again,
Alan

Doug-

In addition to my email- to you-

Haven't heard about the B-24 yet- I'm still going through 1945 in the newspaper ('43 & '44 are done- don't know why I started in '43). I keep hearing rumors of a Navy plane in the SC mountains with a gun in the back but can't get anymore info as someone is growing pot in the area (ya think?) and does not want visitors. . we'll see. Some of the info I have involved pilots who lived in the SC area (Aptos, etc.) and one of them crashed by Morgan Hill. I'm going to check if he is still alive & in the area- would make a good story.
